Tropical
Cyclones
A tropical cyclone is a quickly rotating storm with gale force winds and a spiral
group of thunderstorms that produce heavy rain. Tropical cyclones create
extremely strong winds that can create high waves that can flood areas, creating
more devastation. Depending on the cyclone, it could be between 100km and
4,000km wide. Areas that are near a large area of warm water are more likely to
get tropical cyclones than an inland area, because that’s where cyclones are
created. Tropical cyclones can also be called a cyclonic storm, hurricane,
cyclone, typhoon, tropical storm or tropical depression.
